【Career Chat】Landing an International Internship

There are many things I intended to do in college, such as checking out various student organizations, taking leadership roles, and exploring many aspects of college campus life. However, I’ve also stumbled upon opportunities that I did not foresee, but ended up enjoying wholeheartedly. Completing two international internships definitely falls into this category.
I interned with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in 2014 in Hsinchu, Taiwan. TSMC is one of the world’s largest integrated circuit manufacturing firms, and though most users are unaware of TSMC’s global presence, almost everyone’s smartphone has at least a TSMC chip embedded within.
As a business student, TSMC is hardly ever on my radar, since its industry is highly specialized and tailored to engineering students. I learned about the company because my dad works in the same industry (different firm). I looked TSMC up after struggling to secure an internship through the university’s on-campus-recruiting system. Nevertheless, I was fortunate to find out about the position and gladly accepted the internship after going through two rounds of interviews.
